Trays, Trays, Trays

Trays are miracle workers!  They have the ability to transform a pile of stuff into an organized group of things.  It is a fact, everything looks better on a tray!  So, instead of throwing your every day essentials, keys, change, and phone on a table or countertop, place them on a little tray and they will instantly look organized! Take a look!

A perfect setup for a coffee table.

I recently learned about the James Beard Foundation Award in the world of food.  The award was started in 1995 and is given annually for best restaurant design.  The three nominees this year are DGBG Kitchen and Bar, Le Bernardin, and Romera (click on the restaurant names for more information.) The James Beard Foundation will be announcing the winner on May 7th...stay tuned!

White Walls

In my mind, white walls get a bad rap most of the time.  They are seen as institutional or boring....The truth is that white walls can actually make a room bright, fresh, exciting and, with the right accessories, colorful. Perhaps the best part of having white walls is that they work in any environment, period or style.

Etsy Art

Artwork is such a great way to add color and interest to a room. I love an all white room with a pop of color from an original piece of art!  It seems so clean and fresh.  But, it can be difficult to find exactly what you want.  Luckily, Etsy makes it a little bit easier to find original paintings at affordable prices. Obviously, art is very personal, but I thought I would share a few pieces that I instantly LOVED.

"The Prefectly Imperfect Home" by Deborah Needleman

One of my favorite home decor books is Deborah Needleman's, "The Perfectly Imperfect Home."  It is one of the few books that I constantly gravitate towards for design ideas for my home and others'.  The book begins with Needleman explaining the importance of a house needing signs of life and personality......in other words, having imperfections! Not imperfections in the sense that anything goes, but "aiming for beauty tempered by reality." The book is then categorized into ways to help one achieve a house that exudes life, happiness and originality through "Nice Lighting," "A Proper Welcome," "A Bit of Quirk," and "Glamification," just to name a few. Her ideas and tips are plentiful and so easy! Check it out here, I know you'll LOVE it!

Here are some of my favorite ideas from the book:

1.) Decorative Mirrors- Needleman says, "If you only have mirrors for checking your face or your outfits, you don't have enough mirrors in your life. Most rooms can benfit from a mirror, as most lives can benefit from the extra sparkle."

2.) Pictures by Children- While a little bit of children's art goes a long way, the book expresses how important it is to have a few "joyful and quirky" pictures around the house.

3.) Wallpaper- Needleman states in the book that "wallpaper can make a nothing space feel important." She believes this to be true especially in small rooms like bathrooms, entrys, and hallways.

Buy your new book and transform your house into a home!
