Jill Sorensen & Thinking Outside The Box

There are a few blogs I read daily and Live Like You happens to be one of them!  I find it so inspirational and full of incredible decor advice.  The other day, the author (Jill Sorensen) blogged about "Thinking Outside The Box."  I had to share it with you!

    1. DON’T STOP WITH THE DOOR!
Don’t stop with painting the front door a fun color. Why not add a curtain? Your life is your stage right?

    2. LIVE ON THE WILD SIDE!
Choose an overwhelming amount of animal print for your interiors. Why? Because it looks COOL and how can animals go out of style?  Large, small, walls, floor, any surface and any animal print works.

    3. ADD YOUR OWN ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS.
Living in a rental or a home lacking architectural interest?  No need to fret..paint your own. Even the smallest place becomes your palace.

    4. WEIRD OPPOSITES ATTRACTS
Think of two materials that you’ve never seen together, then mix them. Faux fur on rattan furniture, delicate flower print on dark masculine wood pieces…Think up the most extreme opposites and mix them. The result might be dreamy.

    5. LIGHT YOUR WORLD THE WAY YOU WANT TO
Build your own chandelier. Perhaps some branches from your own yard perhaps?

    6. GIVE YOUR WALLS A JOB
What do you do with odd shaped walls? Make them work for you!

    7.PAINT YOUR OWN HALLWAY
Who needs wallpaper? Paint it the way you want it. Perhaps you need to release some creative energy somewhere? Nothing leaves a first impression more than your entry way…

    8. OVER USE YOUR FAVORITE COLOR
Do you love a color? Use it anywhere you want it, and don’t apply rules as to where.

    9. LIVE IN THE BIG WORLD!
Play with scale!  Drastically change the size of your patterns and see how it alters your life perspective. Perhaps you feel happier, smaller, thinner, grander this way? You never know until you try!

    10. LIVE YOUR DREAM!
Forget what people think. Live your own dream life. Mysterious woman of mystery? Beach Barbie? Go for it!

    Cocoa and Hearts

I am always on the hunt for reasonably priced original artwork, so when I came across Cocoa and Hearts, I got so excited! Jen Ramos, the girl behind Made by Girl blog and shop, is also a talented painter. Her paintings, which are completely sold out at the moment, are so colorful and serene. I immediately fell in love! Check out a few of her masterpieces....

    Ikea At Its Best

Ikea can be overwhelming for even the bravest of shoppers. But, if you have an item in mind, it's really quite easy.  Here are some of my favorite Ikea pieces.  I like all of these items because they look very expensive and some of them can even be tailored to your liking (i.e. spray painted.) Have a look! VITTSJÖ Shelving unit IKEA Tempered glass and metal. Hardwearing materials that give an open, airy feel.

    Vittsjo Shelving Unit $70
Picture two of these shelves (spray painted the color of your choice, i.e. gold, white, light pink, grey) on either side of a couch.

    Vittsjo Shelving Unit $40

BESTÅ BURS Desk IKEA A long table top makes it easy to create a workspace for two. Finished on the back. Suitable for use in the middle of a room.
Besta Burs Desk- high gloss black $269
This would be a great addition to any office or behind a couch as a desk and/or console table.

EXPEDIT Shelving unit IKEA Finished on all sides. Can also be used as a room divider.
    Expediy Shelving Unit White $269

EXPEDIT Shelving unit IKEA The high gloss surfaces reflect light and give a vibrant look. Finished on all sides. Can also be used as a room divider.
Expedit Shelving Unit in High Gloss White $89
These are the most versatile and affordable shelves on the market!

MONGSTAD Mirror IKEA Can be hung horizontally or vertically.
    Mongstad Mirror $129
Again, spray paint this the color of your choice and lean it against a wall in the entry or behind a console table.

KOLDBY Cowhide IKEA The skin will retain its natural appearance and quality over a long time.
    Koldby Cowhide Rug $199
A great price for a must have item!

    Stockholm Rand Rug $199
I have this rug in my dining room and I LOVE it!

    BEKKESTUA Headboard IKEA
    Bekkestua Headboard $250
Love the light grey color, the tufting, and the price!

MASKROS Pendant lamp IKEA Projects decorative patterns onto the ceiling and on the wall.
    Maskros Pendant Lamp $50
This lamp would work so well above a breakfast table or in a laundry room....one more item you could spray paint to fit in with your decor!
